Enhancing the rural placement experience

Students can sometimes be daunted by the thought of going on a rural placement and are unsure what to expect. There can also be some negative connotations around the rural experience promoted by media. The intention of this module is to highlight the importance of a rural experience for students in their training as it can significantly impact their desire to consider a rural position on graduation.

This module showcases some of the ways in which you can adopt a strengths based approach to your supervisory practice and ways to help create a sense of belonging for the students in your organisation, connecting them with community and showcasing the variety of opportunities available in rural practice. There are some terrific interviews in this module from rural clinicians and some beautiful imagery of the places in the Central West and Murrumbidgee which remind us about the benefits of living, working, and studying rurally.
