This module is aimed at both First Nations and non-First Nations clinicians of any health profession who are about to facilitate students on their rural placement. It should take you approximately 2 hours to complete all topics which will give you an awareness of culture and an understanding of a culturally safe healthcare environment. You do not need to complete this module in one sitting.

At the completion of this module you will:

  • Be knowledgeable about what culture means and have explored the diverse aspects and requirements for Cultural Awareness within the context of healthcare.
  • Be able to identify the features of a ‘culturally safe clinical environments’
  • Understand the distinction's between cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, and cultural safety.
  • Know how to evidence cultural sensitivity and awareness when orienting students to clinical placements in various settings.
  • Develop a growing skillset to enact change and encourage respect of culture.
